Videos, photos, poetry and art. (Poetry and art coming soon :)
We wrote this song about 6 months into Julia Hill's famous two year "tree-sit". (1998-1999) We sent a cassette copy of the song up to her and were so happy to receive a phone call from her one evening, from "Luna"! (as the ancient redwood tree was named). We sent copies to local radio stations & it got a lot of airplay. It became a sort of "anthem" that radio hosts would play before interviews with Julia, up & down the west coast and in other various broadcasts.

This short slideshow documentary is comprised of some our archived correspondence with Julia while she was still occupying Luna. Some of her artwork and poetry, which she has graciously given us her permission to use in this slideshow. It is performed by Karrie (Jesse Manzanita) Wallace using over-dubbing of vocal and guitar tracks. Recorded in 1998.This song was subsequently used as Theme & Background music in a full-length documentary entitled: "Butterfly" by San Francisco based filmmaker, Doug Wolens. Which has aired on POV and in many theaters worldwide.
My 1st attempt at filming a video for YouTube. I am using a Logitech 9000 that I found at a yard sale for $7. What do ya know, it actually works! It's my big chance to show the world what a total nerd I am. God I'm a dork! You never truly realize how you look and act until you get to see yourself "live & in action" on film.
This is one of my busking tunes. They just come flowing out of me while I'm busking. Folks are walking by, I strum my acoustic guitar and blows me harps. It's a great time to work on new material because folks don't usually stay around too long, they've got places to go, people to see etc. So once they've stopped to listen and hopefully tossed some offerings my way, they move on and I can just keep on rehearsing that puppy 'till it's golden.
Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening! Jesse
